Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals at Exeter Marsh Barton are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement issued at the time of booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations for the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the terms of the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Vehicle Requirements
- To hire a vehicle from Exeter Marsh Barton, you must be at least 21 years old. Age restrictions may vary depending on the vehicle type, and extra fees may apply for drivers under 25. A valid, full driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of your current address. You will also need to present valid payment details and a security deposit, as well as meet any other conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Exeter Marsh Barton facility. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment systems.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle from Exeter Marsh Barton, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage right away. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. Please return the vehicle in the same condition as it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may incur additional charges. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same amount of fuel as at the start of your rental, as refueling fees will apply if the level is lower. If you anticipate a late return, please contact us as soon as possible, as additional charges may apply. You remain responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, along with an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- Standard third-party insurance is included with every vehicle rental. Complete coverage information and excess amounts can be found in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to lower your financial responsibility. Please review these options thoroughly. You are liable for damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except where additional insurance applies. Damage resulting from neglect, improper use, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. Please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement for specific information. Late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle may not be used for any illegal activities. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or similar risky behaviors is prohibited. The transport of hazardous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is forbidden. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited. The vehicle must be used for its intended purpose only, and it should not exceed passenger or weight limits. Driving outside of the agreed geographical boundaries requires prior authorization.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Exeter Marsh Barton Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that result from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is limited to the amount you paid for your rental within the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraudulent activity.
9. Applicable Legislation
These Terms are governed by English and Welsh law. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon being posted on our website. Your ongoing use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
